IPL vs Waxing

IPL vs. WAXING

Confused about hair removal? Should you wax/shave/try out IPL? I am here to give a helping hand and guide you through the world of hair removal.

How would we describe IPL?

IPL (intense pulsed therapy) is a hair removal technique that disables hair at the follicle to give a permanent reduction in hair growth.

How do you know if IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy is right for you?

IPL is suitable for most skin types but works extremely well on people with light skin and dark hair, those with very light hair may need more sessions to see result as the light blonde hair can reflect the light.  IPL is usually not suitable for those with dark skin and very thick dark hair because the IPL works on the pigment in the hair therefore their skin may get burned by the light. Your therapist will always do a in depth consultation and patch test to see if your suitable for the treatment.

How many treatments are needed?

Hair growth happens in 3 different stages and permanent hair removal can only be achieved in one particular phase. This means that 6-10 treatments of IPL may be needed to achieve the best results. Facial hair may need 10-12 treatments as the hair on your face is affected by hormonal imbalances.

How does the treatment feel?

We use a cryo-handset prior to the treatment this acts like an anaesthetic and numbs the area. Most people say that the IPL treatment feels like being flicked by an elastic band.

How would we describe waxing?

Waxing can provide instant and precise hair removal results in just one session. Waxing is semi-permanent and new hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area for four to six weeks, although some people will start to see regrowth in only a week due to some of their hair being on a different cycle.

How do you know if waxing is right for you?

Virtually anyone is suitable for waxing but it is always a good idea to have a patch test especially if you have sensitive or eczema prone skin.

How many treatments are needed?

Waxing is a semi-permanent hair removal technique so it is something that will be ongoing and as the hair grows back after time it becomes less thick and it may even slow the hair growth down that much that you get bald patches!

How does the treatment feel?

Waxing can be a little painful especially if it is your first time. Also certain areas such as bikini and upper lip wax can be a little more painful.

So as you can see both IPL and waxing have amazing results and super benefits for silky smooth skin. Here at Pamper Me we are experts in both treatments and love to see great results from them. But ultimately it is completely your own choice which you prefer depending on your lifestyle and preference.
